2 things self employment has taught me (by force)

It’s been about 2 month of officially working for myself, and with that’s has come soooo many realisations!! And I guess that was a big part of why I wanted to leave my job. To properly get to know who I am outside of strict 9-5 hours and working constantly

I’m sharing this because I know how stressful it is navigating our twenties feeling like you’re behind, not growing fast enough and all the other things social media makes us feel. So hopefully this makes you feel a little less alone

So the two big learnings from the last 60 days

1. Part of my brain loves routine. The other part hates it
2. I’m actually not very flexible and adaptable

Both are annoying me and making life more difficult than it needs to be, so I’m going to really try to work on these and hopefully find a very happy medium

What that looks like? I’m not 100%. But I know the first step to growing is realising where you need growth

So as I’m navigating self employment, I’m sure there will be a lot more of these realisations and I’m hoping it’ll also come with solutions. And maybe these solutions will help you

doing something I’ve wanted to do for ages | finding Spen ep. 2

Finally fixing the string on my guitar so I can play it!!

You know those things that are very “when I have more time, I’ll do X”

For me it was getting back into playing piano and guitar more regularly. I’d have pockets of time where I could have played, but because the string was broken I’d just kinda written it off

Until I was in a coffee shop thinking of ways I could connect with my younger self a bit more and the idea for this episode of finding Spen came to me!

Finding Spen was the series I came up with when I left my job 2 months ago. I meant for it to be a way for me to express myself, reconnect with the parts of me that I lost to working constantly and document the journey of figuring out life as a self employed coach and content creator.

But this video sat in my drafts for weeks. Because the perfectionist in me took over and felt that if I couldn’t do it perfectly it wasn’t worth doing. But the funny thing is, once I decided to just sit down and start editing it, I ended up with a video I’m honestly really proud of.

No real message here other than to go and do the thing you’re avoiding and make time for the things that used to make you happy
