VINETTE

I finally got to try the newest venture from Chef Stuart Ralston and his team, Vinette. This Parisian style wine bar offering bistro style dishes with a Mediterranean touch did not disappoint. We started with some sparkling wine and delicious bread rolls before moving on to a selection of their small plates. I always think you can judge a meal by how good their bread and butter is, and theirs was *chefs kiss*.

We had:
🐙 Monkfish cheek, octopus & nduja (beautifully presented and beautifully cooked)
🧀 Rare bit with marmalade (stole the show)
🐷 Pigs head croquette with espelette (just so yum)
🫜 Beetroot carpaccio with goats cheese and hazelnuts (loved the contrast of textures and freshness of the beetroot)
🥔 Potato chips, cream cheese, smoked trout roe (these were so moreish and we greatly appreciated the top up of chips halfway through)

For mains:
🍔 Burger with bacon jam and mornay sauce (rich, indulgent and nice and pink just how I like it. Loved the touch of the brushed butter on the bun)
🦐 Monkfish with brown shrimp and purslane (full of flavour, again stunning presentation)
🥩 Steak frites with bordelaise sauce (just uncomplicated beautifully cooked meat with a sauce I could drink. I also got a side of the tenderstem broccoli with anchovy which I would highly recommend.)

Desserts:
🍮 Basque cheesecake (light, creamy and delicious)
🍫 Chocolate with hazelnut praline (rich and indulgent - everything you want from a chocolate dessert)
🍰Blackberry and bay leaf olive oil cake (the cake was so light and fluffy and with the sweet but sharp blackberry and creamy vanilla cream, this is my kind of dessert)

Fantastic service, a lovely, relaxed atmosphere and a beautifully constructed menu which made it so difficult to choose. Another great addition to the Edinburgh food scene thanks to Stuart and his team 🍽️✨🍷🇫🇷 @vinette_edinburgh @chef.stuart.ralston

AD | BEHIND THE SCENES AT LOUDONS

Come with me behind the scenes at the Fountainbridge branch of Edinburgh brunch classic @loudonscafe

I had the most lovely morning in the kitchen with Head Chef Andrea and Head Baker Iryna last weekend. I loved being back in a kitchen and seeing all the hard work which goes into creating their elevated brunch and lunch menu. Andrea was kind enough to show me around and give me a tour of some of their state-of the-art equipment and talk me through how he creates his dishes.

I then headed upstairs where we enjoyed a glorious brunch. We had:

🍄Mixed Wild Mushroom Toast with Cream, Parsley, Spinach, Poached Egg, Parmesan, Toasted Brioche, & Dill Oil (we also got an extra side of bacon which was a master stroke)
🥞 Pumpkin Spiced Pancakes with Cranberry & Rosemary Compote, Spiced Butterscotch Sauce, Whipped Cream, Caramelised Oats and Pumpkin Seeds, and Whisky Maple Syrup
🫚Turmeric, Black Pepper, Ginger & Carrot Juice
🥒Kale, Cucumber, Celery & Parlsey Juice
🍌 Banana Walnut Cake

Everything we had was such a step up from your usual brunch offerings and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend a dull, rainy Saturday morning.

Thank you so much to Andrea and his team for having me and to @soundbitepr for the invite ☕️🍳🥞👩🏻‍🍳🍓🍰🍄
